Making New Friends and My First Back Road Flat

May 22, 2021

This weekend I went camping again up in the mountain forest near Gunnison.

It was a windy drive out, but the views were stunning.

I enjoyed a fire under the stars and reflected on a lot of things going on for me in my life and business.

It was absolutely beautiful out. It rained a bit overnight and I swear I heard something big… maybe a bear or some elk?

Either way, I was safely tucked away in The Rig, so it was all good.

In the morning I woke up and enjoyed the cool, quiet of the woods.

Such a peaceful space.

I got everything loaded up and was ready to adventure and explore, only to realize I had a flat.

My first back road flat and my first flat in The Rig.

Oy ve. I was not prepared.

I can do hard things.

I’ve proven that to myself hundreds of times over these last several years.

I might break down and cry first because sometimes it’s one too many hard things to navigate all by myself in one week, but I get through it. I put one foot in front of the other until it’s done because what else is there to do?

Today I’m grateful for the kind strangers who embraced me in my tears, fed me a breakfast feast at their camp, and welcomed me into their space without a second thought. For humans who drop deep quickly with stories of life, relationships, and healing before helping me change my tire (because I’ve never in my life been strong enough to remove lug nuts, nor have I ever changed a tire on a big SUV). All while telling jokes and bonding over the chaos that comes with an outdoor lifestyle.

I learned some new skills (now I know how to lower the spare tire since the manual was so very unhelpful), made new friends, and made my way through another big, hard, unexpected unknown.

Just grateful for it all today.

The good stuff.
The challenging stuff.
And everything in between.
