What’s Your Motivation?

July 24, 2019

Do you know what your motivation is?

The reason behind what drives you to do the things you do, when you do them, and in the very specific way you choose to do them?

What I’ve loved the most about learning to understand the different personality types is learning that we can all do very similar things… whether that’s how we show up in relationship, whether or not we honor rules and systems, whether we control or rebel (which is its own form of control), what we believe, etc… yet the motivation behind it is incredibly different for each and every one of us.

But most of us are asleep to the nuance behind why we do what we do and why we feel how we feel. Worse yet, we assume that everyone else must do, feel, and believe the same as us.

It’s innocent enough, and yet it can be so incredibly damaging to ourselves, our lives, our relationships, and our ability to show up fully and do our work in the world.

Lack of awareness, both in ourselves and with others, causes so much damage. And if you’re not aware of yourself, you can’t be aware of others, and you can’t respect their personal drivers, motivators, desires, and beliefs.

Knowing yourself is some of the most profoundly impactful work you can do in this life. Truly.

Knowing your drivers and motivations.⁣
Knowing your beliefs and values.⁣
Knowing your personality and preferences.⁣
Knowing your patterns and wounding.⁣
Knowing your feelings and how you experience emotion.⁣
Knowing your deepest fears and how they affect you.

Because it’s only when we truly know ourselves that we can begin to know others. When we can stop making assumptions and start being fully present and engaged. And it’s only then that we can begin to heal collectively and start creating the deeply needed, deeply necessary changes in our world.
