Crag Crest National Recreation Trail

I’ve wanted to do the Crag Crest National Recreation Trail for a little while now!

And this week, the opportunity presented itself to go, and I’m so glad I did! It’s definitely my new favorite trail.

Going on the upper loop first means getting the steep part over more quickly, which is always my preference. Even with all the up, up, up, I felt strong the entire time, which means my training this summer is paying off. 👏🏼

The trail starts in the woods, but thankfully the mosquitos weren’t too bad.

About a mile in, you start going up, up, up, and the views are stunning!

Grand Mesa is covered in lakes, and that makes my heart happy.

It gets rocky before leveling off again in more forest.

I loved all the little mushrooms, wildflowers, and views along the way!

It’s not an easy hike, but it’s so worth the view!

The crag itself is so much fun, though it’s awfully rocky, so be careful.

I want to come back in the fall, and hopefully the smoke will be gone by then.
