One Tried-and-Tested Strategy to Replace Negative Money Beliefs

February 18, 2021

Do you have negative money beliefs?

The worldviews you hold about money determine not only your chances of success in the future but can also affect the quality of your life in the present.

Scary, right? I know!

Even though it may seem ridiculous that just a few thoughts can have that much of an influence over your life, it’s a well-known truth by now that changing your mindset is the first step to changing your life.

To help you get started, here’s one of my favorite strategies you can use to replace negative money beliefs with positive ones!

Step 1: Be aware of the beliefs holding you down

You can’t replace thoughts if you’re not even aware you’re having those thoughts… which is why it’s crucial to first identify the negative beliefs you have about money.

For instance, do you say things like:

  • Money never seems sticks around very long.
  • Money won’t come unless you hustle.
  • The rich are evil!
  • I don’t deserve/need to have that much money anyway.
  • Something bad may happen to me if I have too much (financial) success!

All of those are realistic beliefs that you may not even notice you have but they can still end up affecting your life!

Struggle to find out what you really think about money?

Keep a notepad close to you for a week or two. Write down anything – even the faintest of thoughts – you get when you think about money.

Let’s say, do you feel guilty when you buy coffee every day? Do you feel energized when thinking about going on a vacation… or worried you’re overspending?

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you see a really expensive car? Would you ever invest in a great coach/mentor or feel like that’s money down the drain?

Things like that can offer you some massive insights into the core beliefs you hold about money!

Step 2: Seek to find the opposite

So this part is why I love this method so much.

Now that you’ve identified what are the negative beliefs you hold about money, find the opposite beliefs… and then look for rational ways to prove the truth to your brain.

Let’s say, if you think you deserve to be paid only when you hustle hard, search for people who work 20-hour weeks but end up making 7-figures. Or if you firmly believe the rich people are bad, look for philanthropists in your area and find out how they’ve used the money to change other people’s lives.

You see my point, right? The goal is to be open enough to look at the other side… and give your brain rational proof that there’s another option out there.

Pro tip: At some stages, you may feel terribly uncomfortable… However, keep going to find abundance!

Step 3: Implement the opposite belief in your everyday life

Now that you know which negative beliefs you need to replace, it’s time to get busy. At this stage, you’re going to put your new beliefs into action!

For instance, with your old mindset, you always wanted to work with a coach but held yourself back because you worried it’s an unnecessary expense.

Well, with your new mindset, you realize working with a coach is not an expense – it’s an investment. So book your session today. 😉

Try to do this in every area where you felt stuck with your old beliefs… and let me know how it goes!
