The Aftermath Of Trauma

October 19, 2020

The aftermath of trauma is rarely a pretty sight.
It’s like a natural disaster of some sort.

Everything seems ruined.
Everything feels dull, sad, and gloomy.
And nothing will ever be the same as it was before.

But the same way nature finds the strength to rebuild itself—to grow lush and fruitful once again—you’re going to do the same.

No, it’s never going to be what it was before. But who says it can’t be beautiful, fulfilling, and purposeful in its own new and different ways? Who says there won’t be laughter and joy? Who says you can’t still have a happy ending, even if it’s not what you ever would have wanted or expected?

You can, and you will.

Take the time to grieve what you’ve lost, always. But know that one day you will feel happy and hopeful for what’s to come, even when that grief is still there. It won’t happen overnight, and it won’t come without a certain level of confusing duality, but it will come again.

Just like the new sprouts that push through the ashy remains of a wildfire, your new life is already taking root and will grow into something beautiful in time. Nurture yourself and trust the process.

Life is always unfolding.
