Think There’s Too Much Competition Out There? Read This.

January 13, 2021

We’ve all been there: you suddenly get this oh-so-amazing idea, you obsess about it for a few days and get massively excited… only to have the bubble burst the minute you get on Google.

Someone somewhere is already doing what you want to do! And the more you google, the more *similar* businesses you find!

So should you give up? Is the niche too saturated? Should you wait for inspiration to strike again?

Well, not necessarily… but you should play it smart.

Here’s why having others do what you want to do is a good sign and what you can do to distinguish yourself from others.

Why is this a good thing?

In 2021, it’s pretty hard to think of something that hasn’t already been done. On top of it, the rise of the Internet means you’re no longer competing locally (even if you only do business locally) but globally.

However, that’s not always a bad thing – and here’s why:

The demand-offer equation looks good!

For starters, it means there’s a market for whatever you wanted to do! Someone made the leap and basically, tested the waters for you. If you decide to turn your idea into reality, then, you know there’s demand for it!

Others may do it…

…but no one else will do it the way YOU do it!

If something’s already been done, that doesn’t mean there’s no way to do the same – but in a different way. Of course, plagiarizing is out of the question here, but there are tons of ways to infuse some brand personality into whatever business you’re building!

Stay authentic and lead your own way!

While it’s okay to keep an eye on others in your industry, don’t get obsessed. Instead, stay authentic and create your own path!

1. Let the unique YOU shine from within

As I’d already said, it may be done… but it’s not done by you.

You may have the *same* idea as someone else but trust me, in the end, it’s not going to look or feel the same!

The energy you bring to the table, the way you speak (and write!), the way you help your clients change their lives… that’s something that can’t be duplicated. Identify your unique selling points (what makes you stand out?) and use them to your advantage!

2. Collaborate – don’t compete!

The word “competitor” feels a bit… yucky, if you ask me.

I feel that in today’s market, there’s more than enough room for everyone, which brings me to my next point:

What if you change the way you think about others in your industry as your tribe, not your competitors? I bet that’s going to help you grow your business in more ways than imaginable!

Do guest blogging or invite them over on your podcast, or do an Instagram Stories takeover with them. Your audience is going to love the *fresh* perspective!

3. Turn inward for guidance

The best way to make sure you’re shining your authentic light on the world is to create from within. What does that mean, you wonder?

Well, don’t seek external motivation – turn inward for it.

Let’s say, instead of using others in your industry as inspiration, stop consuming content altogether for a while. Then, let YOUR ideas run freely – you’d be surprised just how many good ideas you get!

What do you do to make sure your authenticity is shining through?

Leave me a comment and let me know, I’d love to hear from you!
