4 Lies You Tell Yourself that Keep You Stuck

November 6, 2019

The alarm goes off in the morning, and before you even know what day it is, you already know it’s not going to be your best day ever.

I know this feeling of waking up in the morning with an invisible weight on your chest all too well.

And while it’s completely unrealistic to expect you’d be leaping out of bed every morning like Maria in The Sound of Music, most of the time you should feel at least a bit of enthusiasm for the day ahead.

We shape our reality with our thoughts and beliefs… and sometimes, those are the very same reason why we may be – and feel! – stuck.

That’s why I wanted to talk more about the most common lies you may be telling yourself that keep you stuck and help you realize there is an alternative to the life you have at the moment if that’s what you want.

Lie #1: It’s not up to me! I can’t do X because of Y!

It’s tempting to believe we don’t have any control over what’s happening in our life or our business.

True, there’s no way to control or predict absolutely everything… but there’s a good amount that completely depends on you and your determination to find a solution, rather than an excuse!

How to get unstuck: Take responsibility for whatever is going on!

Feel like there are a lot of obstacles? Then work your way through them… click here to start now! Can’t change anything? Then change your perspective and how you view the world… that alone is going to be enough to bring more positive changes along the way.

Lie #2: It takes a lot of money to build a new life.

A lot of people would quit their jobs, buy a one-way ticket, and start all over – if only they weren’t stuck with a mortgage to pay off or a massive amount of credit card debt.

Sure, money makes things easier – but you don’t need to win the lottery to turn your life around!

How to get unstuck: The hardest change is your mindset. Work your way through your own self-limiting beliefs, especially those regarding money.

As Marie Forleo says, Everything is Figureoutable – and as long as you want to change your life, nothing will stop you.

Tired of your job but can’t quit because you need the money? Find a side hustle and keep doing both for a while until you feel a bit more comfortable with money. Mortgage is tying you down and you would love to travel? List your home on Airbnb and travel while earning a bit of extra cash.

There’s always a solution if you’re committed to finding it.

Lie #3: Honestly, it’s not even that bad.

Everyone has to push through the occasional bad day.

However, if your bad day has turned into a bad month and your bad month has turned into a bad year… then it’s definitely, definitely time to do something about it.

How to get unstuck: It’s not ungrateful to want more out of life— but before you get what you want, you first have to have a crystal clear vision of the life you’re craving.

Do you want to become a digital nomad and travel the world? Or maybe retire young? Or live at a tropical destination with endless sunshine?

All of those are legit visions you can make true, as long as you have the courage to admit to yourself what is it that you really want. Your life may not be that bad, but it can sure get better if that’s what you want.

Lie #4: You don’t have to love what you do. It’s just a job anyway!

You won’t always be ecstatic about work, but if that’s what you tell yourself every single day when you get ready to dig in, then you probably need to rethink a few things.

Think of it this way: we all spend a good chunk of our time working, a third of our day, to be exact. So why not enjoy that time?

How to get unstuck: Let me first give you a disclaimer here – there’s nothing wrong with working a job that pays the bills, especially while you’re getting your business off the ground!

But instead of thinking how much you hate your job, refocus your energy: what would you love to do instead? Once you have that answer, come up with a plan that helps you build the life you’d love.

Start your dream job as a side hustle or save up enough money to be comfortable for 6-8 months until your business takes off… every option is a viable option as long as it works for you!
