Nothing Is Actually about Us

June 6, 2017

“It’s not personal,” they like to say.

And it’s really not.

When others make choices or take actions that are hurtful, unkind, and unloving… it’s not personal. It’s not about you at all, it’s simply a projection of who they are, what they believe, and their own patterns or wounding. A reflection of how they see the world, how they perceive things to be.

But you know what else is true?
The good stuff isn’t personal either.

The being chosen and loved and treated well. The kindness and care. It’s also a projection of who they are, what they believe, and their own patterns and wounding. A reflection of how they see the world, how they perceive things to be.

When it’s good, we think it’s about us.
When it’s not, we think it’s only about them.

It’s all just projection and reflection, because the world is simply a room full of mirrors. I think the sooner we can truly grasp that in relation to all people, experiences, and interactions—good or bad—the more peaceful we become. The less attached we are to what others think, say, and do.

Nothing is actually about us.
And yet, it also is.

Because it’s all a reflection of our own perceptions.

Being human is fun. 😘
