Truly understanding our core wounding is freedom like nothing else.
Instead of believing “I’m devastated” or “there’s something wrong with me” about things that have ended, I can discern that “my core wound is up in arms and fighting like crazy for old ways of being.”
Does that make the grief any less intense?
Yes, but not at first.
First, you feel the crushing weight of sadness and anger. You cry and scream and cry some more. You rage and ache and spin in confusion.
And then, somewhere in the mess of it all, that wiser part comes through with a gentle voice and words that soothe your soul. A voice that tells you what’s actually going on: you’re honoring your needs and responding from a place of higher worth. You’re leaving behind what was really never for you, and certainly not for who you’re becoming. A voice that spills simple, calming truths, reminding you that you’ve made the right decision and to trust in that part of you that chose to let go.
The grief may still come in waves because core wounds don’t go down without an unsettling fight, but you’ll find your center again.
Your subconscious will see that not only are you surviving without the things you’ve left behind, but you’re thriving (or beginning to). And you’ll remember that nothing’s worth your joy or sanity. Nothing’s worth dimming your light or shrinking yourself down. Nothing’s worth feeling anything less than loved, supported, seen, and heard.
Truly understanding our core wounding speeds up the healing process immensely because we no longer buy into the stories.
They show up, of course, but we see them for what they are and what they’re trying to accomplish. And we start to tell ourselves the truth. Thus, anchoring into new beliefs and ways of being that serve our highest good.
It’s not easy work, but it’s possible.
